About the Work
My first-ever composition was a setting of the Mass Ordinary in Latin (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei), parts of which I submitted in partial fulfillment of General Certificate of Education in Music for my A–Level Examinations. I started writing 'Missa Brevis' shortly after I had moved abroad to boarding school and began my music education in the United Kingdom at the age of 16. During that time, I continued my active involvement as a tenor in the Cantoria chapel choir. Singing in weekly services and frequent choral recitals was a source of experiential inspiration for this work as I became immersed in the English and French sacred music traditions and searched for my earliest compositional bearings. More so than any spiritual statement, this work is a meaningful keepsake of my high school days spent with friends and my first music mentors.
